Human Resource (HR) professionals know finding, hiring, and retaining top talent is both essential and difficult. They must constantly keep abreast of innovative new ways to find applicants that will fit with company culture and productively fill open positions.

Hiring environments tend to take different directions from year to year, and HR professionals who understand and embrace them win the recruiting game. Here are four key trends in today's human resource staffing.

Dealing with an aging workforce. Boomers are aging, and in a few years many of them will be retired. HR professionals will either need to find boomers who are working past normal retirement age, or coax them back into the workforce. This trend will demand that companies offer greater flexibility and un-traditional benefits.

Another trend stemming from Boomers' retirement is the need to....

......Attract Millennials. According to Deloitte's Global Human Capital Trends report, 75% of the workforce will be made up of Millennials by 2020. Companies must "woo" Millennials differently than previous generations. Diversity, creativity, and an opportunity to make the world a better place are all essential components of a Millennial's perfect workplace. They also look for jobs differently, which is why it's vital for businesses to recruit online.

Handling the economic recovery. A stronger economy means top talent will be more apt to look for another job, and businesses will increase their hiring initiatives. The competition for talent will be fierce the next few years. Companies must implement thorough and strong human resource staffing plans, or be left behind.

Online job networks. Job seekers, especially younger ones, are turning increasingly to online staffing resources to find job opportunities. This gives them the flexibility of looking for jobs from their smartphones, from anywhere, at any time. Companies must take measures to increase their presence on online job sites if they want to ensure a wide talent pool of candidates for future open positions.

Businesses will see many changes in the workforce in the next few years, and must be ready to attract and retain top talent. By understanding the workforce demographics, and investing the time to create a highly branded presence on online job sites, human resource professionals can ride current trends to better hires and a more productive work place.
